Hedgie List Reference Hedgehogs: Terminologies

Hello and thank you for your interest in participating in the Pedigree Resource!

  • Verification Status

Hedgie List has four classification categories for each animal.

    Verified
A verified animal is an animal whose pedigree has been verified by the breeder as being accurate. This can happen several ways:

    1. Breeders can register animals that they produce. These animals are automatically verified with the assumption that the breeder is entering accurate spelling, DOB, and lineage information for their own animals. For example, if breeder ABC sells ABC Spike to XYZ and adds that animal to the database then ABC Spike XYZ is automatically verified and added to XYZ’s account.

    2. Breeders can submit an ORIGINAL pedigree for an animal they purchased from another breeder.  For example, breeder XYZ buys ABC Spike and submits the original pedigree to Hedgie List Pedigree Resource Admin for entry.  The Admin will verify ABC Spike and all other ABC bred animals on the pedigree.  Again, this must be an original pedigree.

    3. Breeders can easily look at their herd list and see which animals are marked as Unverified or Verified depending on color. Breeders can mark their own animals as correct by clicking the “Verify” button or can make changes to correct what is in the system or submit changes to Admin. Ideally, breeders will verify all of their animals when and if possible.

    4. Breeders can ask the original breeder if what they have in their pedigree is correct. That approval can then be forwarded on to Admin.

    Unverified
An unverified animal has not been confirmed as pedigree accurate by the breeder.

    Conflict
Conflicts occur when conflicting information is found on submitted pedigrees. For example: AnGelina versus AnJelina. The breeder or owner of the animal will need to verify the correct name or spelling. There is a notifications section within HedgieList that notifies users of conflicts. Once conflicts are addressed and the animal is verified the change is also noted in notifications.

    Unknown
This is only used when the pedigree is verified as truly unknown by the owner or breeder.

In keeping in line with the purpose of Hedgie List Pedigree Resource the goal is to compare each breeder’s information with what has been cooperatively added to the Pedigree Resource.  The includes checking for:

    *Prefix and suffix accuracy
    *Name and other spelling accuracy
    *Lineage accuracy

The four different classifications help breeders identify the status of an animal. For example, if breeder ABC sees a discrepancy on a pedigree and the animal is Verified in the database then the database is correct.

The purpose of the Hedgie List Pedigree Resource is to help breeders and individuals keep true and accurate information for their animals. The goal is for breeders to work together to ensure that true and accurate information is shared between breeders and with customers.
